Live Music
If live music is your passion, you’ll find it here. Informally, on the beach during the day, assorted bands ranging from crazy drum squads of dreadlocked hippies to family bands blowing trumpets and saxophones, with kids banging drums, make themselves heard and pass the hat. On the streets, elegantly-costumed mariachis hold forth inside and out front of restaurants; the occasional wandering soloist or guitarist hits his riffs and sings a few songs in Spanish or English, or a sax player blows a set of jazz standards on the edge of the plaza.
There are local bands capable of seriously rocking your soul: Los Tikkilyches, with their two powerful, golden-voiced girl singers, Julia and Alyssa; guitarist David Ruiz’s jazz-rock fusion band, Tsunami; and our homegrown headbanging crew, Los Gatos Negros de Sayulita, who will blow your socks off on a Saturday night, should they be doing one of their raucous post-punk gigs while you’re in town. Other bands come and go; just stroll the streets, and let the music draw you in. You’ll find it somewhere, everywhere, in Sayulita.
